Inventory of the Nigerian leopard
African Wildlife Foundation
The W Park, a natural park of over one million hectares, stretches over three countries: Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger. It has been more than 30 years since the emblematic leopard (Panthera pardus) was officially observed in the Niger section of the Park (330,000 hectares).
The goal of this project is to investigate the presence of the leopard in the park by mobilising guides and local populations. The project provided practical training in tracking techniques in accordance with the Cyber Tracker standards to 6 forestry officers and 18 game guards and practical and theoretical training to 24 guides in the W Park.
